God and film, film and God...What do they have to do with each other? The epic stories and mythic-sized dramas that often make up the movies captivate us because they enable us to grasp and experience, at least a little, God's universal truth that underlies our existence and reverberates that eternality he placed within us. So pick up some popcorn to peer into the ultimate realities reflected in film. Why? Because the timeless wisdom of the Bible can be applied anywhere...even the multiplex.

What an Easter! Even as I sit here a couple of week removed from our Easter celebration, I think back to Easter and I simply float because there were so many great moments! There was the worship gathering itself where 110 of us gathered to worship and to encounter God in his work of God through Christ's resurrection. Some people were returning from absences from the church. Some were coming as is their practice in life. Some were coming on the arm of a friend who invited them. And some were coming cold hearing about us through newspaper ads, our affiliation with Grace Chapel, or word of mouth! But we all gathered to listen to music where Ryan and Dave pulled out all the stops, to listen to God speak hope to us in Christ's resurrection through our disillusionment in life, and to simply be with each other.

There was the KidsTown experience where 54 children and volunteers gathered to learn about Christ's resurrection in a relevant environment. The children were treated to some special guest teachers and leaders so that the regulars could enjoy a break and refresh themselves in the auditorium. And the children walked through the story of Easter and had fun with an egg hunt. I'm sure these children will be clamoring, "More KidsTown!" as they went home with their parents!

There was the café experience afterward where people lingered until the very end. People just seemed to hang around to simply be with each other and linger over their experience of that morning. And they stayed until the coffee dried up, the food became mere crumbs, and the lights were turned off!

Then there was the God experience throughout where he seemed to work beyond our line of sight and beyond our range of hearing. I received an email shortly after Easter from a guest who shared their Easter experience with me. They were honestly dreading the whole Easter experience because of the "happy, happy, happy" tones that they assumed would be there and they weren't there in life. You see, they were dealing with some profound difficulties in life, so they were down and disillusioned with God. But through the work of God at GracePoint, they were so grateful to be able to piece those moments in the grander story of God and take hope in the resurrection. God moved in their lives through all of us to refresh hope within them!

So take heart. God is answering our prayers with GracePoint. God is honoring all those invitations we're handing out. And he's working beyond what we see and hear directly in front of us, to advance his kingdom in and through us, all to his glory. So take heart and thank God for what he did on Easter and continues to do in our midst!

Floating because of you and what God is doing through us,

Outreach Update - Place of Promise

A group from the Outreach Team recently visited Place of Promise in
Lowell and spent some time with Beth Kidd, the director.   As many will remember, Place of Promise is a Christian Compassion and Recovery
Ministry that we began financially supporting in September 2007.  Our
purpose for visiting was to learn from Beth how our church could be further involved as partners in ministry with them.

What an inspiring meeting we had!  Place of Promise is an unbelievable
ministry and Beth is a remarkable woman.  The whole team felt the
presence of  the Living God in these homes. We all felt affirmed in our decision to support them financially and excited to further partner with them in ministry.

So, here's what we learned.  There are MANY ways in which we as a church can get involved.  Some opportunities are one time events, some would be ongoing. There are work projects, such as assisting with planting vegetable gardens this spring, or repairing the front steps of their house.  There are opportunities for donating, as they're
always in need of items such as clothing and personal supplies for
residents. There are opportunities to prepare and share a meal with residents or lead a Bible Study. They even run a VBS program in the summer and would love assistance with it.

On Sunday April 27th, Place of Promise is hosting an appreciation dinner for both supporters of the ministry and resident graduates.  If you are interested in attending and learning more about Place of Promise, you are invited!  We also have the opportunity to help Beth and her staff during the event by volunteering to  help serve and clean up.  If you are interested in either of these, please talk to Craig Utley, or email him at Craig.Utley@hologic.com.

We will be sharing more specifics of all the opportunities with you through your Life Community Groups. Would you begin praying and considering if you LCG would participate in a service opportunity with Place of Promise?  If you are not involved in an LCG, consider a family service project, or teaming up with some other families to
serve. Find a way to be involved with this amazing ministry!
